Biography

Khuri Mirabel was born into a poor family that was superstitious about the ways that things should be. Khuri had the misfortune to be born an abomination in the eyes of her people. She rarely talks, and rarely partakes of social interaction. This caused my grief and distress for her parents that had no idea what to do with their child. They kept her away from the other children of the pack; ashamed of their child and her inability to get along with others.

Then the day came that changed everything. A wandering tinker made his way into the desert, and on a rare outing Khuri was allowed to come to the market with her parents. She was instantly fascinated with the gizmos that the tinker sold. Without asking permission she started taking them apart. This caused much distress from the old tinker; and much anger from her parents. Enough so that she decided that this is not her spot in the world. She fixed the sandclock that she had broken, and ran away.

She stowed away in the tinker's cart at the fragile age of eight. It was too late to take her back by the time her hunger forced her out of it's recesses several days later. At first the tinker was angry, but as he looked through the stock of broken gadgets and gizmos he found them to all be working. Most far better than they had originally. A bargain was struck. Khuri would fix his wares when the bumps of the road broke them, and the tinker would take her to a place she would finally belong.

Enter the Guild Artifice. She was taken in with nearly open arms at the age of twelve. The fudamentalist artificers did not accept nor trust the young rodent, but she found a family and mentor in Untre Ma'dib of the progressive faction. He saw the young girl's potential and put her to work on puzzles that the artificers have been working on for longer than the guild itself has been in existance. It was here that she first found the Mechanica Technicia. An old book buried away in the depths of the vaults. It described a device  so complex, so intricate and so wonderfully puzzling that it completely absorbed the young girl's mind. All of her spare time became devoted to this one piece of artificing. Fearing for her health and sanity her 'uncle' Untre sent her on a mission.
